I was very impressed with this hotel. I had been staying at the W Times Square since it is close to my office but the crowds of tourists were really starting to get to me. The W Union Square has less than 150 rooms which makes it more difficult to book but walking in just seemed so much calmer. The bar is just to right as you walk in but the floors were peaceful and there were adequate elevators for the number of rooms. I was upgraded to a very large room due to my SPG Platinum status. On the desk was a note from the GM welcoming me and a chilled bottle of Chardonnay, which I thought was a nice touch. The bathroom had a decent size counter to spread out my things, and had the standard Bliss amenities. The bathroom was done in clean white Subway tile with accents of black. It didn’t have that dark feel that so many Ws have. I had separate steam shower and decent size tub. The water pressure was awesome. I am not sure if it was just luck but I had a different style robe than any other W I have stayed at. It seemed extra fluffy but not an overly heavy robe that some hotels seem to provide. The only complaint about the bathroom was there were no towels hanging near the shower. All the bath towels were folded and placed on the shelf under the sink. I stepped out of the shower and had to the slip over to the sink area. My room did not have a view but it did have heavy velvet drapes that did a good job of blocking the morning sun. Turn down service was a chocolate truffle stamped with a “W” and it was tasty. The beds were the standard W Signature bed with down pillows and bed covers, though the sheets seemed extra soft. I felt like I was sleeping in a cloud, which is a good thing. I find some W beds to be a little hard. The gym was nicely equipped and not busy in the evening. They had free weights, 4 elliptical, 3 bikes, but only two treadmills. It looked like there used to be more treadmills. Maybe they are getting more in, but I don’t know. Had drinks at the bar one evening and they were in $10-$12 per drink range. They had lots of couches but I found the service to be a bit slow, but it will say the bar area was full and it was right around cocktail hour.

one of the best hotels in NYC. located in a great spot, right on the northern edge of times square. was upgraded as SPG plat to a large room; not a suite but a very large room. hotel is excellent, will be back.

In my opinion, the best W in New York. The location is great right in the heart of Union Square. The decor in the rooms is typical W but also pretty rich. I found the service to be better than most W's, which can be down right snooty. It is kind of pricey though at approximately $300/night. I will definitely be coming back here again. As Platinum, I got a upgrade to a huge one bedroom room which I liked a lot.
